What These Speakers Are

The Monoprice 113683 is a pair of 2-way in-ceiling speakers built for home theatre or distributed audio. Each unit uses an 8-inch carbon fibre woofer and a 1-inch silk dome tweeter to deliver 160 watts maximum input power. They suit owners who want flush-mounted sound with a paintable magnetic grille.

What To Verify First

Confirm your ceiling cavity has enough depth for the speaker chassis and that you can run speaker cable to each location. The terminals accept up to 10 AWG wire, so check your existing cable gauge. A high-frequency attenuator on the baffle lets you trim brightness after installation.

What The Extras Change

The magnetic metal grille removes without tools and can be painted to match the ceiling colour. The built-in high-frequency attenuator adjusts treble output without external components. Carbon fibre cones are claimed to produce deeper bass and lower distortion than conventional drivers at the same power level.

Questions about this item

Does the box include everything needed to mount and connect the 113683 pair, or must I buy cable and brackets separately?

The speakers ship as a pair with paintable magnetic grilles already attached; you will need to supply in-ceiling mounting hardware and speaker cable up to 10 AWG yourself.

How do I decide between the available versions or capacities of the 113683 Alpha Series?

Only one version is offered — an 8-inch carbon-fibre two-way pair rated at 160 watts maximum input power — so there is no capacity choice to make.

What does the 160-watt maximum input figure mean when the 113683 speakers are installed in a real ceiling?

It indicates the peak power the carbon-fibre woofer and silk-dome tweeter can handle briefly without damage; for everyday listening you will typically use far less amplifier power.
