6.5 Inch Carbon Fiber Ceiling Speakers

The Monoprice Alpha 113684 is a pair of 2-way in-ceiling speakers built for home audio and home theatre installations. Each unit uses a 6.5 inch carbon fiber woofer with a rubber surround and a 1 inch silk dome tweeter. The design handles up to 120 watts maximum input power while aiming for lower distortion than conventional drivers. A built-in high frequency attenuator lets you adjust brightness to suit the room.

Installers wanting paintable magnetic grilles

These speakers suit installers who want a metal grille that can be painted to match the ceiling and attaches with magnets for a clean look. The terminals accept cable up to 10AWG for straightforward wiring. Buyers who need weather-rated drivers for outdoor soffits or a sealed back-box for fire-rated ceilings should look at something else because this model is designed for standard indoor in-ceiling mounting only.

Magnetic grille and attenuator change daily use

The paintable magnetic grille removes the need for visible screws and lets the speaker disappear into the ceiling once painted. The high frequency attenuator on the baffle lets you tame bright rooms without an external equaliser. Accepting up to 10AWG cable means you can run longer in-wall runs without stepping up to heavier gauge wire. These features reduce installation time and simplify later tuning.

Questions about this item

What amplifier power rating do I need to drive the 120-watt maximum input of these 6.5-inch carbon fiber ceiling speakers?

Choose an amplifier or receiver rated for 8-ohm loads that can deliver clean power up to 120 watts per channel; the carbon fiber woofer handles high power with low distortion so adequate headroom prevents clipping at loud volumes.

Will the magnetic paintable grille fit flush against my existing 6.5-inch cutout if I keep the old speaker frames?

The included magnetic grille attaches directly to the speaker bezel after the unit is mounted in a standard 6.5-inch ceiling cutout; reusing old frames may prevent the magnets from seating correctly and leave visible gaps.

How can I verify the silk dome tweeter and carbon fiber woofer are both producing sound after installation?

Play a full-range test track and listen for clear highs from the 1-inch silk dome tweeter plus deep, controlled bass from the 6.5-inch carbon fiber woofer; adjust the built-in high-frequency attenuator if the treble sounds too bright.
