What this switch does

The Monoprice Blackbird 144434 is an 8K60 2x1 HDMI switch built for users who need to route two HDMI sources into a single display input. It suits home-theatre enthusiasts, gamers, digital-signage operators and video-conference setups that demand uncompressed 4:4:4 colour at high refresh rates. The unit is new and requires no software configuration.

The spec that decides fit

It supports HDMI 2.1 and HDCP 2.3 with 48 Gbps bandwidth, enabling 8K at 60 Hz 4:4:4 and 4K at 120 Hz 4:4:4. If your sources or display require a higher bandwidth path or a different HDCP version, this switch will not pass the signal. The single deciding factor is whether your chain operates within the 48 Gbps limit.

How it fits a build

Connect two source devices to the switch inputs and run one HDMI cable from the switch output to your display or receiver. The switch frees up the display's sole HDMI port while preserving full 48 Gbps throughput for gaming consoles, media players or workstation outputs. No external power supply is mentioned, so the unit draws power from the connected HDMI lines.

Questions about this item

Will the 48 Gbps bandwidth actually deliver 8K at 60 Hz on my display?

Does the HDMI 2.1 and HDCP 2.3 implementation limit any HDR or high-refresh gaming features?

The switch passes HDMI 2.1 and HDCP 2.3, so 4K@120 Hz 4:4:4 and HDR metadata are supported without downgrade.

How much space and power does the unit need behind my TV?

It weighs 0.40 lb and draws power from the HDMI connections, so no external adapter or rack space is required.
