Purpose and fit

This blue adapter cable converts a standard IEC C13 power lead into a NEMA 5-15 extension for North American outlets. It suits anyone needing to extend a PC or monitor supply by three feet without replacing the original cord. Builders working with equipment that lacks a detachable IEC inlet will not be able to use this adapter.

Sustained-load behaviour

Rated at 15 A with 14 AWG conductors, the cord is designed to carry continuous current without overheating during long workstation or server sessions. The heavy-gauge wiring maintains stable voltage delivery over the full three-foot length. No thermal protection or active cooling is present, so ambient temperature limits still apply.

Deciding specification

The key detail is the male IEC 60320 C14 plug mating to a female NEMA 5-15 receptacle, which only works when your existing cable terminates in a C13 connector. If your device uses a different inlet or a fixed mains lead, this adapter will not connect.

Questions about this item

Will the 14AWG cord run warm when powering a 15A load all day?

The 14AWG conductors are rated for 15A continuous use, so normal operation at full load stays within safe temperature limits.

What must I already have to use this IEC C14 to NEMA 5-15 adapter cable?

You need an existing IEC C13 power cord to plug into the C14 male end, giving you a standard NEMA 5-15 outlet.

Can I keep using my older C13-equipped power supply with this blue 3ft adapter?

Yes, the C14 plug mates directly with any standard C13 connector, extending the reach by three feet.
