Direct PC-to-PC link cable

This Monoprice 2379 crossover cable connects two computers directly for data transfer without a hub or switch. It also works as a system-link cord between Xbox consoles. The 7-foot red cable uses 24 AWG stranded pure bare copper conductors for reliable performance.

Check port type and software needs

Verify both devices have standard RJ45 Ethernet ports before ordering. Remember that data-transfer software may be required on the computers to move files over the direct link. The cable is wired as a crossover, so it will not replace a standard patch cord for router or switch connections.

Gold contacts and safety-rated jacket

Each RJ45 plug carries 50 µm gold-plated contacts for corrosion resistance, well above the 10 µm found on budget cables. The jacket meets UL 444 and TIA-568-C fire-safety standards because it uses 100 percent pure bare copper instead of copper-clad aluminum. Snagless strain-relief boots protect the connector latch during repeated use.

Questions about this item

Does the 7 ft red crossover cable arrive ready to plug into two PCs, or do I need extra connectors or tools?

The cable has RJ45 plugs on both ends with 50 µm gold-plated contacts and snagless strain-relief boots, so it connects two computers directly — no additional connectors or tools required.

When should I choose this 7 ft 24 AWG 550 MHz crossover version instead of a straight-through patch cable?

Pick this crossover cable when you need a direct PC-to-PC link or an Xbox system-link connection; a straight-through cable is for connecting a PC to a router, switch or modem.

What does the 550 MHz rating mean for actual throughput when I hook up two machines with this cable?

The 550 MHz bandwidth supports Cat6 performance up to 1 Gbps over the 7 ft run, provided both network adapters also operate at gigabit speed.
