15.6" QHD 165Hz gaming laptop

The MSI Katana 15 pairs an Intel Core i7-14650HX processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. Sixteen cores and twenty-four threads reach up to 5.2 GHz for demanding workloads. The 15.6 inch display shows 2560 x 1440 resolution at 165Hz. Windows 11 Home comes pre-installed.

RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 graphics

The single specification that decides fit is the RTX 5070 laptop GPU with 8GB GDDR7 memory. This determines the frame rates and visual fidelity available in modern titles. Buyers who need more video memory or a higher GPU tier should look elsewhere. The GPU defines the performance ceiling for this configuration.

Thermals, noise and power draw

The chassis measures 14.13 x 10.31 x 0.99 inches and weighs 4.58 pounds. Cooling performance and acoustic output will vary with workload intensity on the i7-14650HX and RTX 5070. Power consumption scales with CPU and GPU utilisation during gaming or creative tasks.

64GB DDR5 and 2TB PCIe SSD

This unit has been opened by engineers to install 64GB DDR5 memory and a 2TB PCIe SSD. The original 16GB and 512GB configuration is replaced. Buyers who want the factory-sealed specification should not purchase this model. The upgrade carries a separate one-year warranty on the added components.

Questions about this item

How does the 5.2 GHz boost clock on the i7-14650HX behave during sustained gaming loads?

The 16-core, 24-thread processor can reach 5.2 GHz on light bursts; under continuous heavy load the laptop cooling system will manage clocks to stay within thermal limits, so sustained frequencies will be lower.

What external display resolutions and refresh rates can the HDMI port on this Katana 15 actually drive?

The HDMI output supports up to 4K at 60 Hz, so a 2560 x 1440 panel at 165 Hz or a 1080p panel at high refresh rates will run without compression.

Will a standard 15.6-inch laptop sleeve accommodate the 14.13 x 10.31 x 0.99 inch chassis of this model?

Yes — the chassis measures 14.13 by 10.31 by 0.99 inches and weighs 4.58 pounds, so any sleeve or backpack compartment rated for a 15.6-inch laptop will fit it.
