Ready-to-game laptop for competitive players

The MSI Katana 15 ships with an Intel Core i7-14650HX processor, 16 cores and 24 threads running up to 5.2 GHz, paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 8GB GDDR7 GPU. A 15.6 inch QHD panel at 2560 x 1440 and 165 Hz handles fast motion. Windows 11 Home is pre-installed. Buyers who want more storage or a second GPU should look elsewhere.

Connectivity and expansion built around the chassis

Three USB Type-A ports, one USB Type-C, HDMI, a headset jack and RJ-45 Ethernet cover peripherals and wired networking. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth handle wireless links. The 512 GB PCIe SSD and 16 GB DDR5 are soldered or factory-fitted; the supplier opens the seal only for its own upgrade service. No SD card reader is present.

Thermals, noise and power in daily use

The 14.13 x 10.31 x 0.99 inch chassis weighs 4.58 pounds and uses a black finish with RGB backlit keyboard. Internal cooling manages the 14650HX and 5070 under load; fan noise rises during heavy gaming but stays typical for a 15 class machine. Battery life varies with workload; the supplied adapter powers both CPU and GPU at full boost.

Questions about this item

Will the 5.2 GHz boost clock hold under sustained load on the i7-14650HX?

The i7-14650HX reaches 5.2 GHz on short bursts. Under sustained all-core work clocks drop to stay within the 45 W power limit and the cooling capacity of the 15.6 inch chassis.

How loud and hot does the Katana 15 get during an all-day gaming session?

Fans spin up to move heat from the RTX 5070 and 16-core CPU. Expect audible airflow and keyboard-deck warmth after an hour; the 0.99 inch profile limits thermal mass.

What must I already own to use the 165 Hz QHD panel and Wi-Fi 6E?

A router or access point that supports Wi-Fi 6E is required for the 6 GHz band. The 165 Hz 2560 x 1440 screen works immediately with the built-in RTX 5070.
