15.6 inch QHD+ 165Hz gaming laptop

The MSI Katana 15 pairs a 15.6 inch 165Hz QHD+ anti-glare IPS display with an Intel Core i9-14900HX processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 graphics. It targets gamers and creators who want high refresh-rate visuals and strong multi-core performance in a portable chassis. The 45% NTSC colour coverage suits competitive play more than colour-critical work.

Intel Core i9-14900HX with RTX 5070 12GB GDDR7

The 24-core 32-thread CPU runs at 4.1 GHz base and up to 5.80 GHz boost, while the RTX 5070 brings 12GB GDDR7 video memory. 32GB DDR5 system memory and a 512GB PCIe SSD handle modern titles and multitasking comfortably; storage-hungry libraries will need external or internal expansion. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 provide current wireless connectivity.

Thermals and acoustics under load

The 14.13 x 10.2 x 0.98 inch chassis weighs 4.96 pounds and uses MSI cooling to manage the i9-14900HX and RTX 5070 heat output. Fan noise rises during sustained gaming but remains typical for a thin 15.6 inch gaming laptop. Power draw scales with the 24-core CPU and discrete GPU; the included adapter supplies enough headroom for stock operation.

Questions about this item

Can the i9-14900HX and RTX 5070 12GB run my older USB 3.2 Gen 1 peripherals without adapters?

Yes, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports are built in, so existing mice, keyboards or drives plug straight in. The single USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port also accepts legacy devices with the right cable.

How do I verify the 165 Hz QHD+ panel and RTX 5070 12GB are active after first boot?

Open Windows Display settings and confirm 2560 x 1600 at 165 Hz, then check Device Manager or the NVIDIA control panel to see the RTX 5070 12GB GDDR7 listed as the active GPU.

Does the box include a 512 GB PCIe SSD and 32 GB DDR5 or must I buy them separately?

The laptop ships with a 512 GB PCIe SSD and 32 GB DDR5 already installed, so no extra storage or memory purchase is required to start gaming.
