15.6" QHD+ 165Hz gaming laptop

The MSI Katana 15 pairs an Intel Core i9-14900HX processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 12GB GDDR7 GPU for high-frame-rate play at 2560 x 1600. The 24-core, 32-thread CPU reaches 5.80 GHz for demanding workloads. Windows 11 Home is pre-installed. Builders who need more than 1 TB of fast storage or a second graphics card should look elsewhere.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

The 14.13 x 10.2 x 0.98 inch chassis weighs 4.96 pounds and houses cooling for the 24-core CPU and RTX 5070. Fan behaviour scales with load; typical productivity runs quieter than sustained gaming sessions. Power is delivered through the dedicated input port; the system draws what the components require.

64GB DDR5 and 1 TB PCIe SSD upgrade

Original seal is opened by engineers to install 64GB DDR5 memory and a 1 TB PCIe SSD, replacing the base 16GB and 512GB configuration. The upgrade carries a 1-year warranty on the added RAM and SSD alongside the standard manufacture cover. A 4-zone RGB keyboard, 720p webcam, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 complete the feature set.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 64 GB DDR5 upgrade and what step is most often missed?

The original seal is opened by engineers who fit the 64 GB DDR5 modules and 1 TB PCIe SSD before shipment, so no user installation is required.

Which component will need replacement first under heavy use?

The 1 TB PCIe SSD has a finite write endurance; plan to replace it once its TBW rating is reached.

What thermal limit appears first during sustained loads on the i9-14900HX?

The 24-core 32-thread CPU can hit its 5.80 GHz boost ceiling, then throttle when the cooling solution reaches its dissipation capacity.
