IEEE 1394 Firewire cable with 4-pin to 9-pin connectors spans 300cm (10-ft) for linking printers, scanners and external hard drives
This NEON Drive cable provides a 300cm link between Firewire devices. It suits users who need to connect legacy peripherals such as external hard drives, printers or scanners. The 4-pin to 9-pin male ends bridge the two common IEEE 1394 port sizes. The 10-ft length adds reach for awkward desk layouts.
The cable works with equipment that still uses IEEE 1394 ports. It helps anyone extending a short factory lead on a scanner or drive enclosure. It is not for buyers whose devices only offer USB, eSATA or SATA interfaces. The 4-pin and 9-pin plugs will not fit those sockets.
Check each device for a 4-pin or 9-pin IEEE 1394 socket before ordering. One end of this cable is a 4-pin male plug, the other is a 9-pin male plug. If both ports are the same size you need a different cable. The 300cm length is fixed and cannot be altered.

Plug the 4-pin end into the peripheral and the 9-pin end into the host port; the common mistake is forcing the connector upside down because the keying notch is offset.
Inspect the strain reliefs and connector pins periodically; replace the cable if the moulded boots crack or pins become bent, as the copper cores are not user-serviceable.
The IEEE 1394 interface bandwidth is the bottleneck before the 300cm copper length introduces measurable signal loss.
