Extends WiFi 6 coverage up to 1.6 Gbps with four streams, a 2.5 GbE port and mesh roaming for 15-plus devices
Model AX1600 (EAX12)
Speed Up to 1.6 Gbps
The Netgear EAX12-100NAS is a wall-plug wireless range extender that adds WiFi 6 coverage to an existing router or gateway. It supports up to 15 wireless devices across a 2.4 GHz band rated at .4 Gbps and a 5 GHz band rated at 1.2 Gbps. The unit includes an 880 MHz dual-core processor, internal antennas, one multi-gig Ethernet port, four gigabit LAN ports, one gigabit WAN port, and two USB 3.0 ports. It is suited for households that want mesh roaming under a single network name without replacing their current router.
The extender reaches a combined wireless data rate of 1.6 Gbps, but the 2.4 GHz radio is capped at .4 Gbps while the 5 GHz radio tops out at 1.2 Gbps. Real-world throughput will be lower due to interference, building materials, and the half-duplex nature of wireless repeaters. The multi-gig port accepts 1 G, 2.5 G, or 5 G wired links, yet the four LAN ports and the WAN port are limited to 1 Gbps. OFDMA and MU-MIMO help serve multiple clients, but total airtime is shared across all connected devices on each band.
The EAX12 delivers up to 1.5 times the performance of a WiFi 5 (802.11ac) extender, making the jump worthwhile for homes with heavy 4K streaming, gaming traffic, or many simultaneous IoT devices. It adds up to 1,200 sq. ft. of coverage and enables seamless roaming with the host router. Buyers who need more than one multi-gig uplink, dedicated backhaul radios, or tri-band operation should look elsewhere, as this model provides a single 5 GHz radio and a single 2.4 GHz radio only.

Other versions of this model
The AX1600 designation means combined speeds up to 1.6Gbps across 4 streams, with 1.2Gbps on 5GHz and .4Gbps on 2.4GHz. It supports 15+ devices and adds up to 1,200 sq. ft. of coverage.
That is the total theoretical throughput across both bands. Real-world speeds depend on your router, walls and interference, but the 880MHz dual-core processor and OFDMA help sustain 4K UHD streaming and gaming on multiple devices.
The extender includes one 1G/2.5G/5G Multi-Gig Ethernet port plus four Gigabit LAN ports and one Gigabit WAN port. The Multi-Gig port caps at 2.5Gbps when linked to a compatible router or switch, giving wired devices faster access than standard Gigabit.
