Model MS308

Type Unmanaged Essentials

  • Plug-and-play setup needs no software or configuration
  • Eight 2.5G ports deliver 100M, 1G or 2.5G per device
  • Silent fanless design suits desktop or wall mounting
  • Per-port LEDs show link speed and activity at a glance
  • Non-blocking architecture provides wire-speed throughput across all ports

8-port 2.5G desktop switch

The Netgear MS308-100NAS is an unmanaged multi-gigabit Ethernet switch with eight RJ45 ports. It supports 100M, 1G and 2.5G speeds on every port for small business or advanced home networks. The fanless metal chassis runs silently and includes a wall-mount kit for flexible placement. No software configuration is required.

2.5GBase-T wire-speed throughput

Each port negotiates 100M, 1G or 2.5GBase-T automatically and the non-blocking fabric delivers full wire-speed switching across all eight ports. A 4K MAC address table and 9720 byte jumbo frame support handle heavy traffic loads. IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet is supported but deactivated by default. The switch operates at Layer 2 with IEEE 802.1p QoS prioritisation.

Fanless metal build for desk or wall

The silent fanless design fits on a desktop or mounts on a wall using the supplied bracket kit. Per-port LEDs show link speed and activity while a single power LED confirms operation. The unit requires an external power source and standard twisted-pair cabling. It adds multi-gig connectivity without PoE, managed features or uplink stacking ports.

Questions about this item

What does 2.5 Gbps per port actually deliver when I plug in real devices?

Each of the eight RJ45 ports negotiates at 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps or 2.5 Gbps depending on the connected device, so a 2.5 Gbps NAS or workstation runs at full multi-gig speed while older gear falls back to its own maximum.

Which Ethernet standard sets the 2.5 Gbps ceiling and what else does it govern?

IEEE 802.3bz defines 2.5GBASE-T over twisted-pair copper and also enables Energy Efficient Ethernet (802.3az) and 802.1p priority tagging on every port.

What mounting hardware is included and how much space does the metal case need?

The switch ships with a wall-mount kit for vertical or under-table installation; the fanless metal enclosure also sits flat on a desktop without extra brackets.
