Connection direction

This adapter converts a Mini DisplayPort male output to a standard DisplayPort female input. It is built for owners of MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac or other Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt 2 equipped computers who need to connect an external monitor, TV or projector that uses a full-size DisplayPort cable.

Cable requirement

Verify that your source device has a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt 2 port and that your display accepts a standard DisplayPort connector. A separate DisplayPort cable is required to complete the link between the adapter and the screen. The adapter only functions in the Mini DP to DP direction and will not work for a DisplayPort source to a Mini DisplayPort display.

Resolution upgrade

The unit supports resolutions up to 4K and complies with the DisplayPort 1.2a specification. It replaces a direct Mini DisplayPort cable when the target display only offers a full-size DisplayPort input. The jump is worthwhile when you need 4K output from a legacy Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt 2 host without replacing the computer.

Questions about this item

Does the 30DP-MDP201-BK come with a DisplayPort cable or do I need to buy one separately?

The adapter only provides a Mini DisplayPort male plug and a DisplayPort female socket. A separate DisplayPort cable is required to reach your monitor.

The specs mention DisplayPort 1.2a — what resolution and refresh rate does that actually deliver?

Compliance with DisplayPort 1.2a enables video up to 4K resolution and high-definition audio pass-through for streaming or gaming.

Can I use this adapter to connect a standard DisplayPort source to a Mini DisplayPort display?

No. The 30DP-MDP201-BK is a one-way Mini DP to DP converter and does not support the reverse direction.
