C14-to-C7 extension for data-centre power

This two-foot cord connects devices with an IEC-60320-C7 inlet to a PDU or UPS that provides a C14 outlet. The 18 AWG SPT-2 conductors are rated for 10 A and carry UL and cUL listings. Fully moulded strain relief protects the joints in rack environments.

Practical limits of the C14/C7 interface

The C7 connector is non-polarised and ungrounded, so it cannot be used with equipment that requires an earth connection. Current is limited to the 10 A rating of the 18 AWG wire and the connector specification. Voltage compatibility follows the IEC-60320 standard for the attached devices.

Check your device inlet and rack layout

Verify that the equipment you intend to power uses a C7 two-slot inlet and draws no more than 10 A. Confirm the PDU or UPS presents a C14 socket and that the two-foot length reaches between the mounted units without tension. Ensure the rack power budget accommodates the additional load.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 2 ft length or a longer cord for my rack setup?

The 2 ft length keeps cable clutter low inside a rack; pick a longer version only if the PDU or UPS sits farther than 2 ft from the device inlet.

What does the 10 A rating mean when I plug this into a live UPS?

The 10 A rating is the maximum continuous current the 18 AWG conductors can carry safely; do not exceed it or the cord can overheat.

How does the IEC-60320-C14 to IEC-60320-C7 connection limit what I can power?

The C14 plug fits a standard PDU or UPS outlet while the C7 connector mates only with two-slot non-polarised inlets found on laptops, VCRs, DVD players and similar low-power gear.
