12.7mm SATA Slim Internal Blu-ray Drive

This 12.7mm SATA internal Blu-ray drive reads Blu-ray discs including BD25 and BD50 media at 6X speed. It also reads DVDs at 8X and CDs at 24X while burning DVD and CD formats. The bare drive features a black tray-loading panel and 4 MB cache for laptop or compatible enclosure installation.

Buyers Replacing 12.7mm Laptop Drives

This unit suits owners replacing a 12.7mm SATA optical drive in a laptop or external enclosure where brackets transfer from the old unit. It is not for buyers needing a 9.5mm or 9.0mm slim drive, nor for those requiring Blu-ray burning capability or included playback software for commercial discs.

Height Must Match 12.7mm Bay Exactly

The drive fits only bays accepting a 12.7mm height; it cannot replace 9.5mm or 9.0mm drives. Verify the original drive height before purchase, as the SATA interface alone does not guarantee physical compatibility in thinner laptop chassis.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the drive reads and writes at the rated 24X CD and 8X DVD speeds after installation?

Use disc-burning software such as ImgBurn to run a write-speed graph on CD-R and DVD+R media; the graph should peak at 24X and 8X respectively, confirming the drive performs to specification.

The listing says "bare drive" — what exactly ships and what must I supply myself?

The box contains only the 12.7 mm SATA Blu-ray drive; you must reuse the mounting brackets, bezel and screws from your old drive and provide Blu-ray playback software such as VLC, which is not included.

My laptop currently has a 9.5 mm optical drive — can I use this 12.7 mm model instead?

No, the 12.7 mm height is physically larger and cannot replace 9.5 mm or 9.0 mm drives; choose this version only when the original drive bay accepts a 12.7 mm SATA unit.
