Internal 9.5mm SATA Blu-ray Drive

This internal optical drive fits the 9.5mm bay height used by many laptops and connects through a standard SATA interface. It reads Blu-ray discs at 6x, DVDs at 8x and CDs at 24x, while also burning CDs and DVDs. The tray-load mechanism and black front panel match typical laptop aesthetics. Mounting brackets from the original drive can be transferred to this unit.

Who this suits and who it does not

The drive is intended for owners of laptops or small-form-factor systems that require a 9.5mm high SATA optical drive and want Blu-ray playback plus DVD and CD burning. It will not work in chassis designed for 12.7mm or 9.0mm drives, and it cannot write to Blu-ray media. Users needing BD-R or BD-RE recording should look for a drive that explicitly supports Blu-ray burning.

Deciding specification — 9.5mm height

The single specification that determines compatibility is the 9.5mm drive height; the drive cannot replace 12.7mm or 9.0mm units. Verify the bay height of the target system before purchase. Blu-ray playback also requires separate player software such as VLC, which is not included with the drive.

Questions about this item

How long can the 9.5mm SATA Blu-ray drive sustain 6x BD reads before heat becomes the limiting factor?

The drive is rated for 6x BD-ROM read speed and 8x DVD-ROM read speed with a tray load mechanism; sustained performance will depend on your laptop's internal airflow and mounting.

What noise and heat levels should I expect from the tray-load mechanism during all-day Blu-ray playback?

The tray-load design operates at standard laptop optical-drive acoustics; heat output is comparable to other 9.5mm SATA drives and is managed by the host chassis ventilation.

Which existing laptop parts must I already own to install this 9.5mm SATA Blu-ray drive?

You need a laptop with a 9.5mm high drive bay, a free SATA data and power connector, and the mounting brackets from your old drive to secure this unit.
