QSFP+ 40G Transceiver for Short-Range Links

This Mellanox-compatible QSFP+ module delivers 41.25Gbps across four 10.3125Gbps lanes at 850nm. It targets data-centre operators who need 40GBASE-SR4 connectivity over multimode fibre. The MPO-12 UPC connector supports breakout to four 10G-SR ports for flexible patching.

Verify Switch Ports and Fibre Grade Before Ordering

Confirm the host equipment accepts QSFP+ 40GBASE-SR4 optics and that the MPO-12 keying matches your patch panels. OM4 fibre provides 150m reach while OM3 is limited to 100m. The VCSEL transmitter operates from 0 to 70°C, so ensure cabinet airflow keeps the module within this range.

Fits Standard QSFP+ Cages With MPO-12 Patch Cords

The module slides into any compliant QSFP+ cage and draws power from the host board. An MPO-12 multimode trunk cable completes the link, freeing four SFP+ ports that would otherwise be needed for 10G uplinks. Digital optical monitoring is supported for real-time link health checks.

Questions about this item

Does the MPO-12 module ship with patch cables or must I buy OM3/OM4 fibre separately?

The transceiver includes the MPO-12 male connector only; compatible OM3 or OM4 multi-mode patch cables must be purchased separately.

Should I choose the 100 m OM3 or 150 m OM4 reach for my 40 GbE links?

Select OM4 fibre for the full 150 m reach; OM3 supports up to 100 m at the same 41.25 Gbps aggregate rate.

What real throughput does the 41.25 Gbps rating deliver per lane in a live switch?

Each of the four lanes carries 10.3125 Gbps, giving four independent 10 GbE channels when broken out with a suitable fan-out cable.
