M.2 NVMe to OCuLink Adapter

This adapter converts an M.2 NVMe PCIe x4 slot into an OCuLink SFF-8612 connection for external GPU docks or U.2/U.3 SSDs. It targets builders adding graphics or storage to systems with a compatible M.2 key-M socket. Laptops without PCIe protocol support on their M.2 port cannot use this adapter for eGPU expansion.

Build Integration Requirements

The host must provide a PCIe 4.0, 3.0 or 2.0 x4 NVMe interface; x2 slots and SATA-based M.2 sockets are not supported. No OCuLink cable is included, so a separate SFF-8611 4i cable must be sourced. The 15 cm FPC board and 5.9 inch overall length allow flexible routing inside compact chassis or external enclosures.

Thermals and Power Profile

The passive circuit board draws negligible power and adds no active cooling noise to the system. Thermal performance depends entirely on the host M.2 slot airflow and the attached eGPU or SSD enclosure. PCIe 4.0 x4 operation sustains up to 64 Gbps bandwidth without throttling from the adapter itself.

Questions about this item

What is the maximum data transfer rate of the PCIe 4.0 x4 link on this adapter?

The adapter supports PCIe 4.0 x4 with a data transfer rate of up to 64 Gbps, ensuring no speed limitations for connected eGPU or SSD devices.

How much power does the adapter itself draw during continuous operation?

The adapter is a passive circuit board with no active components, so it draws negligible power and generates no measurable heat or noise during all-day use.

Which M.2 slot key and protocol must my laptop or motherboard provide for this adapter to function?

Your system must provide an M.2 M-key socket wired for PCIe x4 NVMe; the adapter is incompatible with PCIe x2 slots and all SATA-based M.2 sockets.
