Purpose & Audience

This 170W 20V 8.5A AC adapter with a square yellow Slim Tip connector replaces the original power supply for compatible Lenovo ThinkPad, Legion, ThinkStation, ThinkCentre, ThinkBook and IdeaPad laptops. It accepts 100-240V input for worldwide use and includes a US power cord in the box.

Who It Suits & Who It Does Not

Buyers with listed models such as ThinkPad P53, P1 Gen 3, X1 Extreme Gen 3, Legion Slim 5 or IdeaPad Gaming 3 will find a direct fit. It is not for owners of laptops that require a different connector shape, a higher wattage brick or a USB-C Power Delivery source, nor for anyone needing a multi-voltage travel adapter with interchangeable tips.

Sustained-Load Behaviour

The unit delivers a continuous 170W at 20V 8.5A and also supports the 135W 20V 6.75A profile used by several compatible machines. UL safety testing and the stated industrial manufacturing process are intended to maintain stable output during extended charging sessions without thermal throttling or voltage sag.

Questions about this item

Which Lenovo models accept the 20 V 8.5 A square yellow slim tip connector?

The adapter fits ThinkPad P1 Gen 1‑6, P15, P15v, P16, P16v, P17 Gen 1‑3, P50‑P53, P70‑P73, X1 Extreme Gen 1‑5, T15g, T15p Gen 1‑3, Legion Slim 5, 5i, 5P, S7, Y520‑Y740, Y7000, Y7000P, IdeaPad Gaming 3, ThinkBook 16p G3, 15p, and listed ThinkStation and ThinkCentre models.

Will the 170 W unit safely charge a laptop that originally shipped with a 135 W adapter?

Yes — the charger delivers 20 V at 6.75 A for 135 W and 20 V at 8.5 A for 170 W, so it covers both power levels and the laptop draws only what it needs.

How can I confirm the adapter is operating correctly after connecting it?

The laptop’s charging indicator should light, the OS battery icon must show “Plugged in, charging” and the battery percentage should increase while the system runs.
