Purpose-built mobile workstation

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-54 is a fully rugged laptop certified to MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65 standards. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i5-5300U processor at 2.3 GHz with 16 GB of memory and a 500 GB SSD. A 14-inch multi-touch display at 1920 x 1080 resolution supports the included digitizer pen for field data capture.

Field professionals versus office users

This unit suits emergency responders, utility crews and military personnel who need 4G LTE FirstNet connectivity, a dedicated GPS receiver, smartcard and fingerprint readers in a chassis that survives drops, vibration and driving rain. Buyers who want a thin ultrabook for desk work, who need discrete graphics for rendering, or who require more than 16 GB of memory should look elsewhere.

Storage and memory headroom

The 500 GB solid-state drive holds the operating system, mission applications and local maps with room for several hundred gigabytes of field logs. Memory is fixed at the 16 GB maximum supported by the platform, so multitasking across browser-based dispatch tools, GIS viewers and secure VPN clients remains smooth, but virtual machines or large datasets will exhaust the available RAM.
