Converts 10/100/1000Base-T copper to 1000FX SFP fibre with LC connector for Gigabit network extension
The PLANET GT-805A converts 10/100/1000Base-T copper signals to 1000FX fibre using an SFP slot with LC connectors. It suits network engineers extending LAN links beyond copper distance limits in commercial or campus environments. The unit operates standalone or slides into a compatible chassis for centralised power. Its small 3.82" x 1.02" x 2.76" footprint fits tight cabinet spaces.
Maximum power draw is 4.6 watts, so heat output stays low during continuous Gigabit throughput. The converter is rated for 0 to 50 degrees Celsius operating temperature and 5 to 95 percent non-condensing humidity. Status LEDs show power, copper link and activity at 1000 Mbps, plus fibre link and activity for real-time monitoring. No moving parts mean silent, maintenance-free operation.
This device replaces slower 10/100 media converters when Gigabit fibre uplinks are required. It also upgrades fixed-connector models by accepting interchangeable SFP transceivers for multi-mode or single-mode fibre at different distances. The jump is worth it when existing copper runs hit the 100-metre limit or when a chassis deployment demands hot-swappable flexibility.

The converter draws a maximum of 4.6 watts and generates up to 15 BTU of heat, operating silently with no fan in temperatures from 0 to 50 °C.
It needs a DC 5V 2A adapter (included) and a separate 1000Base-SX/LX SFP transceiver with an LC connector, which is not supplied with the unit.
The RJ-45 port auto-negotiates at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps, while the SFP slot accepts multi-mode transceivers for 220 m or 550 m reach and single-mode units for distances up to 120 km.
