Flatbed book scanner with 2 mm spine margin, 1200 x 1200 dpi CCD sensor, LED light, 3.6 s A4 scan at 300 dpi and bundled ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Sprint for searchable PDFs
The Plustek OpticBook 4800 is a flatbed scanner built for digitising bound volumes without damaging spines. A CCD sensor and LED light source capture 1200 x 1200dpi optical resolution with 48-bit colour input. The 2mm book-edge design lets pages lie flat against the glass, serving libraries, researchers and hobbyists who need faithful reproductions of books up to 8.5 x 11.7 inches.
LED illumination runs cooler than lamp-based units and the scanner draws under 18 watts while scanning, dropping to under 4.3 watts idle. The 24 Vdc external supply rated at 0.75 A keeps the desktop unit quiet during the 3.6-second A4 pass at 300dpi. No active cooling fan is present, so operation stays silent in home or office settings.
Included applications — Presto ImageFolio 4.5, PageManager 7.10, DI Capture, DocTWAIN, Book Pavilion, ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Sprint and DI Express — cover scanning, OCR, PDF creation and image editing. The one-touch action buttons for delete, black-and-white, grayscale and colour modes launch these tools directly, turning a raw scan into a searchable archive without extra licences.

Connect the 24 Vdc power supply and USB 2.0 cable, install the software from the CD on Windows 2000 through 8, then calibrate using the Book Pavilion tool before scanning. The step users skip is calibration, which aligns the 2 mm book edge and CCD sensor for shadow-free pages.
The LED light source is rated for the scanner's life and is not user-replaceable. Keep the glass platen clean with a lint-free cloth; no lamps or filters require periodic replacement.
The daily duty cycle is 2,500 sheets. Exceeding this can accelerate CCD sensor wear and increase power draw above the 18 W operating rating, so batch large jobs across multiple days.
