Pocket AM/FM Radio for Daily Listening

The PRUNUS J-159 is a compact radio designed for listeners who want portable AM and FM reception with simple controls. It operates on two AAA batteries and includes a stereo earphone jack for private listening. A lock key prevents accidental button presses while the unit moves in a pocket or bag. The sleep timer adds convenience for bedside use.

Reception Limits and Battery Operation

The tuner covers standard AM and FM bands without digital processing or weather-alert channels. Reception quality depends entirely on local signal strength and the earphone cord acting as an antenna. Battery life varies with volume level and screen-light usage; the display backlight switches off automatically after inactivity to conserve power. No speaker is built in, so headphones are mandatory for audio output.

Upgrade from Basic Analog Tuners

This model replaces simple analog wheel-tuned radios by adding 198 station presets split evenly between AM and FM bands. The jump is worth it when you regularly switch between many stations and want one-touch recall instead of manual hunting. It does not suit buyers who need a built-in speaker, rechargeable cells, Bluetooth streaming, or weather-band alerts.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the AM FM version or the FM only version?

The tuner specification lists FM only, so the AM FM label in the title is not supported by the band data.

How many stations can I store on this radio?

Up to 198 presets are supported — 99 FM and 99 AM — letting you save and recall all your favourites with one click.

What does the lock key actually stop on this model?

The lock button prevents accidental operation while the pocket radio is bouncing around in a pocket or worn on the lanyard.
