Connects 2.5 or 3.5 inch SATA drives via USB 2.0 at up to 480 Mbps with a 0.35 m copper cable
This cable adapter connects a 2.5 or 3.5 inch SATA drive to a PC through a USB 2.0 port. It uses an INIC-1618L chip and a copper-core cable measuring 0.35 metres. The unit supports hot-swap and plug-and-play operation without external power. It is built for notebook optical drives with a 6P+7P SATA interface.
The adapter fits notebook optical drives of 7 mm, 9.5 mm and 12.7 mm thickness that use the 6P+7P SATA connector. It also allows booting and system installation from the attached drive. Builders who need to connect internal 2.5 or 3.5 inch hard disks or SSDs for permanent installation should look at a different solution.
The interface tops out at 480 Mbps, so large file transfers will be slower than with a native SATA connection. If your workflow demands higher sustained throughput, this adapter will not meet that need.

The USB 2.0 interface caps throughput at 480 Mbps, so sustained transfers will not exceed that rate even if the drive is faster.
It fits 2.5 and 3.5 inch SATA drives and supports 7 mm, 9.5 mm and 12.7 mm optical-drive thicknesses via the 6P+7P SATA connector.
Connect the 6P+7P SATA plug to the drive, then insert the USB 2.0 plug into the PC; the step often missed is ensuring the SATA connector is fully seated on both the 6-pin and 7-pin rows before powering on.
