True 11.1.4 Channel Sound System

The Samsung HW-Q990F Q Series soundbar delivers a true 11.1.4 channel configuration with dedicated rear speakers and a wireless subwoofer. It is built for home-theatre enthusiasts who want object-based surround formats without running speaker cables across the room.

HDMI eARC and Optical Input Limits

The bar connects through HDMI and optical inputs, supporting 4K video pass-through at 120 Hz and HDR10+ metadata. Bandwidth is sufficient for lossless Dolby TrueHD and DTS:X bitstreams, but older TVs without eARC cannot return full-resolution Atmos from internal apps.

Wireless Rear Kit and Subwoofer Placement

Rear speakers and the subwoofer link wirelessly, so only power outlets are needed at the listening positions. The subwoofer measures 9.8 inches wide, deep and 9.91 inches high, fitting beside furniture, while the main bar spans 48.5 inches wide and 2.79 inches high to sit below most screens.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 11.1.4-channel version over a smaller setup?

The 11.1.4-channel layout adds four overhead drivers and dedicated rear speakers for true Dolby Atmos height effects that a 5.1 or 7.1 system cannot deliver.

What does the 11.1.4-channel figure mean once the system is in my living room?

It means eleven main drivers, one subwoofer and four upward-firing modules create a dome of sound that places effects above and behind you, not just at ear level.

What does the HDMI 4K 120 Hz pass-through actually cap in practice?

It caps at 4K resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate with HDR10+ so gaming consoles and UHD players pass through without downgrading the video signal.
