Samsung PM1633a 960 GB SAS SSD

This Samsung PM1633a drive delivers 960 GB of storage over a SAS 12.0 Gbps interface in a 2.5-inch form factor. It is built for write-intensive surveillance and security workloads that demand consistent throughput. The unit is supplied new and ready for integration.

Suits servers with SAS backplanes needing high

The drive provides 195000 random read IOPS and 31000 random write IOPS with a 2000000-hour MTBF rating. It is not suited for systems that only offer consumer drive connectors or lack a 12.0 Gbps SAS host controller. Desktop PCs without enterprise drive bays should look elsewhere.

SAS 12.0 Gbps interface determines compatibility

A backplane or HBA that supports SAS 12.0 Gbps is required to use this drive at its rated speed. Without that interface the drive will not function. Verify the host system provides a native SAS connection before purchase.

Questions about this item

Will the SAS 12.0 Gbps interface work with my existing 6 Gbps SAS controller?

The drive uses a SAS 12.0 Gbps interface which is backward compatible with 6 Gbps and 3 Gbps SAS controllers, though it will operate at the controller's maximum speed.

How can I verify the PM1633a is delivering its rated 195000 random read IOPS after installation?

Use a storage benchmark tool such as FIO or CrystalDiskMark to measure 4K random read performance and compare the results against the 195000 IOPS specification.

Does the 2.5-inch PM1633a include a mounting bracket or caddy for server bays?

The drive is supplied as a bare 2.5-inch unit; any 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch adapter, hot-swap caddy or mounting screws must be purchased separately.
