Thin 7 mm 2.5" drive for notebooks

The Seagate Momentus Thin ST250LT012 is a 250 GB internal hard drive built to the 2.5 inch form factor with a 7 mm z-height. It spins at 5400 RPM and connects through a SATA 3.0 Gb/s interface with a 16 MB cache. The slim profile suits older ultraportables and netbooks that cannot accept standard 9.5 mm drives.

Check SATA revision and bay height

Verify that the notebook uses a SATA interface and that the drive bay accepts a 7 mm tall 2.5 inch device. The drive works in bays designed for 9.5 mm drives, but the mounting screws or caddy must match the 70.10 mm width and 100.55 mm length. Confirm the system BIOS recognises SATA 3.0 Gb/s speeds before ordering.

Replaces thicker 250 GB laptop drives

This unit upgrades a failed or slow 9.5 mm mechanical drive of the same capacity in legacy notebooks. The jump is worth it when the original drive has died or when the thinner chassis requires a 7 mm replacement. It does not serve buyers who want more storage, faster access times or solid-state responsiveness.
