MacBook hub with MagSafe clearance

This 7-in-2 Thunderbolt adapter is built for MacBook Air and Pro models from 2018 to 2025. Its custom shape avoids covering the MagSafe charging port on 13, 14, 15 and 16 inch laptops. It adds HDMI video, Thunderbolt 3 passthrough, three USB-A ports, one USB-C data port and a 3.5 mm audio jack through a single cable. The aluminium body weighs 98 grams and measures 6.5 inches long.

Dual-display limits by Apple silicon

The HDMI port drives one external screen at 4K 60 Hz while the Thunderbolt 3 port can output up to 5K 60 Hz. On M1 and M2 Macs the hub cannot extend to two external monitors; it only mirrors. M3 Macs support dual extended displays in clamshell mode. M4 Macs support dual extended displays with the lid open or closed. Windows systems can use MST for three-screen setups across the two video outputs.

Power and data headroom

The Thunderbolt 3 port delivers up to 100 W for laptop charging or 15 W for phone charging, but power delivery, 40 Gb/s data and 6K video cannot run simultaneously. USB-A ports and the USB-C data port share a 5 Gbps bandwidth pool. The 6.5 inch tether limits placement flexibility on crowded desks. Builders needing more than three legacy USB-A ports or a second HDMI output will need a larger dock.

Questions about this item

Will the aluminium casing or any port need periodic replacement?

The aluminium construction has no moving parts or user-serviceable components, so no scheduled replacement is required.

What throughput limit appears first during continuous file transfers?

The USB-C data port is rated at 5 Gbps, so that ceiling is reached before the Thunderbolt 3 link.

How warm does the hub get and does it draw extra power when running all day?

The aluminium body acts as a heatsink; it stays warm but not hot, and the hub only passes through up to 100 W for laptop charging without adding its own draw.
