Sick VTF18-3N5140 photoelectric proximity sensor NPN

Industrial proximity sensor for automation

The Sick VTF18-3N5140 is a cylindrical photoelectric proximity sensor designed for industrial automation and machine-building applications. Its brass nickel-plated metal housing and PMMA optics provide durability in harsh environments while the IP67 enclosure rating protects against dust and temporary immersion.

Low power draw with stable switching

Operating from a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply with a maximum ripple of 10 %, the sensor draws only 30 mA. The NPN dark-switching output changes state in 2 ms, delivering reliable detection without excessive heat or electrical noise during normal operation.

Consistent performance up to 45 mm range

The infrared LED achieves a sensing range of 0 mm to 45 mm with a maximum reach of 50 mm. Sensitivity is adjusted via a built-in potentiometer, allowing stable detection across the full operating temperature span of –25 °C to +70 °C during sustained use.
