What the product is

The SiliconDust HDHomeRun Flex Duo HDFX-2US is a network-attached TV tuner that receives free-to-air ATSC 1.0 broadcasts. It connects to a home router so live television can be streamed to phones, tablets, computers, streaming boxes and smart TVs without a separate antenna on each device. The unit includes two tuners, allowing two different channels to be watched or recorded at the same time. Optional DVR functionality is added by attaching a USB hard drive.

Who it suits and who should look elsewhere

Households that want to distribute over-the-air channels to multiple screens over an existing wired or wireless network will find this a good fit. It works with popular platforms such as Android, Fire TV, Apple TV, iOS, Roku, Xbox One, Windows 10, Mac and LG devices. Buyers who need more than two simultaneous streams, or who require ATSC 3.0 reception, should consider a different model. The tuner also does not support satellite or cable-card sources.

Capacity and headroom

Two ATSC 1.0 tuners provide enough headroom for a typical household to watch one programme while recording another, or for two people to view different channels at once. Adding a USB drive enables time-shifting and library building without a subscription, though a paid TV guide unlocks advanced series recording. The dual-core processor handles the network streaming load for these tasks. Performance will degrade if more than two streams are requested simultaneously.

Questions about this item

What type of network connection does the HDHomeRun Flex Duo HDFX-2US need to stream TV to my devices?

It connects to your home network via Ethernet so you can watch live TV on phones, tablets, computers and streaming boxes over Wi-Fi or wired links.

Can I keep using my existing antenna with the HDFX-2US tuner?

How do I confirm both tuners on the HDFX-2US are scanning channels correctly?

Open the HDHomeRun app on any supported device, run a channel scan and verify that the tuner status shows two active tuners finding your local ATSC 1.0 stations.
