Letter-size top-tab folders for colour-coded filing

Smead 11948 folders come in a 100-count box of assorted colours, built from 11 point stock with one-ply tabs and rounded top corners. The 1/3-cut tabs sit half an inch high and the scored body allows three-quarter-inch expansion for growing files. They suit offices, schools and home organisers who need quick visual sorting.

Practical limits of top-tab letter folders

The 11 point stock handles everyday paper loads but will not support heavy binders or thick catalogues. One-ply tabs wear faster than reinforced tabs under frequent handling. Assorted colours are pre-set; you cannot choose a specific colour mix. Expansion stops at three-quarter inches, so very bulky projects need a different format.

Easy to start, watch tab placement

Open the box and label the tabs — no tools or assembly required. The undercut front panel keeps contents visible when the drawer is full. The common mistake is writing on the tab after the folder is packed, which hides the label behind the expansion fold. Label first, then fill.

Questions about this item

Should I order the 100-count box of Smead 11948 folders or look for a smaller pack?

The 100-count box is the only quantity offered for model 11948; it supplies enough folders for a full filing system or multiple projects at once.

How does the 11 point stock hold up inside a packed filing cabinet?

The 11 point stock provides rigid, one-ply tabs and an undercut front panel that resists bending even when drawers are tightly filled.

What does the 1/3-cut top tab design mean for label space?

Each tab measures 1/2 inch high, giving a clear labelling area while keeping the folder compatible with standard letter-size hanging rails.
