Stackable Legal File Dividers

These Smead 35650 dividers create multiple filing surfaces inside a single legal-size folder. Each of the ten sets includes a punched hinge that stacks over the fastener below it. The bottom divider attaches directly to the folder fastener. Reinforced 11 point manila stock supports frequent handling.

Who These Suit

Professionals managing personnel, tax, or legal files gain quick section identification from the 1/5-cut bottom tabs. The 1/2 inch scored expansion accommodates growing document volumes. Users who only need a single filing surface per folder will not use the stacking capability.

Fastener Compatibility

The dividers require a 2 inch prong, B-style fastener on the folder to function. Without that specific fastener type the stacking hinge cannot connect. Verify the folder hardware before ordering.

Questions about this item

How do I stack the dividers onto the folder fastener without misaligning the punched hinge?

Fit the punched hinge of the bottom divider over the folder's fastener first, then layer each additional divider hinge over the fastener of the divider below it; the scored hinge allows 1/2" expansion as you build the stack.

What part of the Smead 35650 dividers will wear out first with daily handling?

The 11 point manila stock and the 2" prong B-style fastener at the top of each divider take the most stress when sections are lifted in and out repeatedly.

At what point does the 1/2" expansion hinge stop accommodating more sections?

The hinge is scored for 1/2" expansion; once the combined thickness of the stacked dividers and their contents reaches that limit, the fastener can no longer close securely.
