Legal-Size Alphabetic File Guides

These Smead 52180 guides divide legal-size file drawers into alphabetic sections from A to Z. Each set contains 25 pre-printed top-tab guides in assorted colours including green, pink, blue, salmon and yellow. They are designed for offices and archives that need quick visual navigation across large volumes of paperwork.

Top-Tab Visibility Limits

The guides use flat metal tabs printed with single characters in 1/5-cut positions. This layout works well for standard legal folders but can become crowded if you add many sub-categories under a single letter. The 8.50 by 14 inch dimensions match legal sheets exactly, so they will not fit letter-size drawers without overhang.

Simple Drop-In Installation

Installation consists of sliding the guides into the drawer rails alongside your existing folders. The manila divider stock is recycled and certified from a managed forest, so it is lighter than pressboard and may bend if the drawer is overstuffed. Ensure the drawer rails run the full 14 inch depth or the rear tabs will not seat properly.

Questions about this item

Should I buy the 25-piece alphabetic set or look for individual guides?

The 52180 model ships as a 25-piece set covering A through Z, so one pack gives you every letter without mixing multiple SKUs.

How much drawer space will 14-inch legal guides actually use?

Each guide measures 8.50 inches wide by 14 inches long, matching standard legal file drawers and adding only the tab thickness to the folder height.

Do the 1/5-cut top tabs work with any filing system?

The 1/5-cut printed tabs align with standard top-tab legal folders and pressboard guides, letting you flip directly to the lettered section.
