Monthly expanding file for legal documents

Smead 70490 is a 12-pocket expanding folder with preprinted January-to-December tabs for organising legal-size paperwork. The Redrope leather-like cover and double-thick panels resist tearing at the gussets. Made with 30 per cent recycled content and wood from a certified managed forest.

Check pocket count and paper size before ordering

Verify that twelve monthly pockets match your filing cycle and that legal-size sheets measuring 8 1/2 by 14 inches fit your storage space. The open-top design allows quick insertion but offers no flap closure. Ensure the 7/8-inch expansion capacity suits the volume of documents you plan to store.

Durable construction handles daily handling

Reinforced top and bottom gussets extend twice as far into the panels as standard files for extra strength. The heavy liner board and tear-resistant reinforcement keep the folder rigid when fully loaded. No power, cooling or noise considerations apply to this passive office accessory.

Questions about this item

Does the Smead 70490 expanding file come with index tabs or dividers already installed?

The file has twelve pre-printed monthly pockets labelled January through December, so no separate tabs or dividers are needed.

Should I choose the legal-size version or a letter-size version for standard legal documents?

This model measures 8 1/2 by 14 inches, which matches legal-size paper; a letter-size file would be too narrow.

How much paperwork can the 7/8-inch expansion actually hold in daily use?

The 7/8-inch gusset expands to accommodate a substantial stack of legal sheets while the double-thick panels keep the file rigid.
