What this switch does
This SMUGDESK unit is a 2×1 HDMI 2.0 switch with an integrated audio extractor. It routes video from two sources to one display while sending sound separately to a soundbar, amplifier or headphones via optical, coaxial or 3.5 mm outputs. The ARC function returns TV audio to external speakers without extra cabling.
Check your sources and display
Both source devices must output HDMI signals compatible with the 18 Gbps bandwidth limit. The display needs to accept 4K at 60 Hz or 1080P at 120 Hz with HDR10 and HDCP 2.2 for protected content. Verify your audio gear accepts digital SPDIF or coaxial for 5.1 surround or analog 3.5 mm for stereo before connecting.
How it fits in a build
The switch sits between your two HDMI sources and the single screen, drawing power from the HDMI bus or an optional USB connection. It frees up the display's audio ports by breaking out sound to three independent paths, letting you keep a soundbar on digital and headphones on analog simultaneously. The metal housing handles heat without a fan.

Questions about this item
What cables are included and what must I buy separately?
The unit itself is supplied; you provide two HDMI cables for the sources, one HDMI cable to the display, and the optical, coaxial or 3.5mm cable that matches your audio system.
Which audio output should I choose for 5.1 surround sound?
Use the optical SPDIF or coaxial port with the format switch set to bitstream for 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS; the 3.5mm jack only carries stereo.
Will 4K at 60Hz work through the switch to my TV?
Yes, the switch passes full 18Gbps HDMI 2.0b bandwidth so 4K at 60Hz 4:4:4, 1080p at 120Hz, 3D and HDR10 all remain intact.
