Dell PowerEdge R240 and R340 drive conversion

This adapter kit includes a bracket and tray that let a 2.5 inch SATA or SAS drive sit securely in a 3.5 inch bay of a Dell PowerEdge R240 or R340 server. It is built for administrators who need to add solid-state or mechanical storage without replacing the chassis. The set provides a direct mechanical fit for those specific models.

Sustained operation in server bays

The metal construction holds the drive firmly so vibration from continuous read and write cycles does not loosen the connection. Both SATA and SAS interfaces are supported, allowing the same tray to handle mixed workloads over long periods. No active cooling is included, so airflow in the server remains the only thermal management.

Compatibility checks before ordering

Verify that the target server is a PowerEdge R240 or R340 and that the bay accepts a standard 3.5 inch form factor. Confirm the drive you plan to install uses a SATA or SAS connector, because other interfaces will not connect. Ensure an available drive bay and the correct cabling exist in the chassis.

Questions about this item

Does the 2.5 to 3.5 adapter add noise or heat when the server runs continuously?

The bracket is a passive metal frame with no moving parts, so it adds no fan noise and generates no measurable heat during all-day operation.

Which existing drive interface do I need so the SATA or SAS drive works inside the Dell PowerEdge R240 or R340?

Your server must provide a standard 3.5-inch SATA or SAS backplane connector; the adapter simply routes those signals to the 2.5-inch drive.

Will a legacy 2.5-inch SATA SSD fit and function correctly in this tray inside my older PowerEdge R240?

Yes, the caddy secures any 2.5-inch SATA or SAS drive and aligns it with the R240 or R340 backplane for reliable operation.
