SMUGDESK

SMUGDESK 2230 to 2242 M.2 B+M Key / NVMe MKey Male-Female Extension Adapter

SKU CH-36HH-2C4HA

Converts a 2230 M.2 SSD to a 2242 form factor for NVMe or SATA drives in Legion Go and ThinkPad devices

  • Converts 2230 SSD to 2242 slot via male-to-female extension
  • Supports both B+M Key SATA and MKey NVMe high-speed drives
  • Engineered for Legion Go and ThinkPad 2242 M.2 slots
  • Compact low-profile design maintains stable high-speed signal integrity
  • Plug-and-play installation upgrades portable gaming and notebook storage

Converts 2230 SSDs to 2242 slots

This adapter extends a 2230 M.2 solid-state drive to fit a 2242-length slot. It accepts both B+M Key SATA and MKey NVMe drives for use in devices such as the Legion Go and ThinkPad notebooks. The male-to-female design aligns the drive precisely with the host connector.

Keying determines drive compatibility

The adapter passes through the existing B+M or M Key interface without converting the protocol. A SATA drive remains limited to SATA speeds, while an NVMe drive retains its PCIe lanes. Builders needing a different key type or a longer form factor such as 2280 cannot use this adapter.

Plug-and-play installation

No tools or drivers are required; the drive slides into the female end and the male end inserts into the 2242 slot. The low-profile build keeps the assembly within standard chassis clearances. Misalignment is the only common issue, so verify key orientation before applying pressure.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the B+M Key SATA version or the MKey NVMe version for my 2230 drive?

This single adapter accepts both B+M Key SATA and MKey NVMe 2230 SSDs, so you do not choose between versions; the same board works with either drive type.

Will my 2230 NVMe SSD run at full speed when extended to a 2242 slot with this adapter?

The male-to-female extension maintains stable high-speed signal transmission without speed reduction, so the drive performs at its rated NVMe throughput.

Does the MKey interface on this adapter limit me to PCIe 3.0 x2 instead of x4?

The adapter is a passive extension that preserves the drive's native MKey NVMe or B+M Key SATA signalling; it does not impose any lane or generation cap.
