A 3.5-inch hot-swap tray with 2.5-inch adapter for PowerEdge 14th-gen servers, supporting SAS and SATA drives with LED status indicators
This hybrid kit combines a full-size 3.5-inch hot-swap drive tray with a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch adapter bracket. It is built for PowerEdge R440, R540, R640, R740, R940 and C6420 servers equipped with 3.5-inch hot-swap bays. The tray accepts standard 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives directly, while the adapter lets you mount 2.5-inch SAS or SATA SSDs and HDDs in the same bay.
Metal construction and precision-aligned contact pins maintain stable high-speed data transmission during long-duration heavy-duty server operation. Native hot-swap support with LED status indicators shows drive activity and fault warnings for quick troubleshooting without full server shutdown under proper procedures. The sturdy housing resists vibration inside rackmount cabinets, preventing poor-contact read-write errors during RAID rebuilds and continuous storage tasks.
This kit replaces the need for separate trays when you want to mix 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives in 14th-generation PowerEdge 3.5-inch hot-swap slots. It is not for servers lacking 3.5-inch hot-swap bays or for drives using interfaces other than SAS or SATA. The jump is worth it when expanding storage capacity or rebuilding arrays with mixed drive form factors.

The tray is a passive metal caddy with no moving parts, so it does not generate its own heat or noise; drive thermals and acoustics are unchanged from mounting the drive directly in the bay.
You need a 2.5-inch SAS or SATA SSD or HDD; the adapter brackets it into the 3.5-inch tray so it fits the server bay and connects to the backplane.
Yes, the tray’s LED pins align with the server backplane, so drive-activity and fault LEDs function with any compatible 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drive installed.
