Converts up to five M.2 NGFF SATA SSDs into a single 3.5" SATA 3.0 JBOD volume with open-frame cooling
Model 4 ports
This SMUGDESK card converts a single 3.5-inch SATA bay into four slots for M.2 NGFF SATA SSDs. It targets builders who want solid-state speed in systems that only offer traditional SATA connectors. The adapter operates in JBOD mode, presenting each installed drive as one combined volume to the operating system.
The board mounts directly into any 3.5-inch SATA drive bay and connects to a motherboard SATA 3.0 port. No extra power cables or PCIe lanes are required. An open-frame layout promotes airflow around the SSDs, helping to keep temperatures down without adding a fan. Only M.2 SATA modules in 2230, 2242, 2260 or 2280 lengths are supported.
All four SSDs must be populated simultaneously; the adapter then merges them into a single logical disk. Maximum throughput is limited by the SATA 3.0 link at 6 Gbps, so total bandwidth is shared across the array. NVMe or PCIe M.2 drives are not compatible and will not function in this card.

The open frame maximises passive airflow around each drive, so sustained workloads stay within safe temperatures without a fan.
Each SATA M.2 SSD typically draws well under 5 W, so four drives stay well within a standard 3.5" bay power budget.
The adapter presents one combined JBOD volume, so only one SATA 3.0 port on the host is required.
