Aluminum 5.25-inch bay converter

This aluminum bracket converts a vacant 5.25-inch optical drive bay into a mount for one 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA or IDE hard drive or SSD. It suits desktop builders and server operators who want extra storage inside existing ATX, MATX or server chassis without replacing the case.

Builders adding drives to empty optical bays

The adapter fits users with spare 5.25-inch slots who need a simple mechanical bracket for 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drives. It does not suit systems lacking a 5.25-inch bay, nor builders who require hot-swap trays or tool-less sleds.

Single 5.25-to-3.5/2.5 mechanical bracket

The unit is a solid aluminum mounting frame that accepts one 3.5-inch or one 2.5-inch SATA or IDE drive per 5.25-inch bay. Matching screws are included for secure installation.

Questions about this item

How well does the aluminum bracket handle heat during continuous operation?

The solid aluminum alloy construction conducts heat away from the installed 3.5 or 2.5-inch drive, lowering its operating temperature and providing anti-vibration stability for long-running use in servers or monitoring systems.

What cables are needed to connect a drive installed in this adapter?

The bracket is a mechanical mount only; you must supply your own SATA data and power cables to connect the 3.5 or 2.5-inch SATA or IDE drive to the system.

Which drive form factors does this 5.25-inch bay adapter accept?

It converts a single 5.25-inch optical bay to hold either one 3.5-inch mechanical hard drive or one 2.5-inch laptop SSD or HDD, compatible with both SATA and IDE interfaces.
