Converts a 40-pin IDE/PATA 3.5" drive to SATA with an included data cable for legacy data recovery
This SMUGDESK converter board translates a 40pin parallel IDE interface into a standard SATA female connector, letting you connect a vintage 3.5inch PATA hard drive to a modern motherboard. A 7pin SATA data cable is included for a direct link to the board data port. The compact bare PCBA design fits easily inside a desktop chassis and requires no driver installation.
The adapter replaces a legacy IDE ribbon cable or an external USB enclosure when you only need to read or archive data from an existing 3.5inch PATA drive. The jump is worthwhile when the motherboard lacks an IDE header but still offers a free SATA port and a spare Molex power connector for the drive.
The board passes data through the SATA link but does not supply power; the drive must still receive 4pin Molex power from the PC power unit. Signal conversion is limited to the parallel PATA protocol, so the drive operates at its native PATA transfer rate rather than native SATA speed. Compatibility is restricted to standard 40pin IDE drives.

No published specifications for this item yet.
The compact bare PCBA design is small enough to sit inside a desktop chassis alongside a 3.5-inch drive, but it does not mount to the bay rails itself.
Connecting the separate 4-pin Molex power lead to the IDE hard drive is essential; the board only passes data signals.
Only the 7-pin SATA data cable would need swapping; the converter board itself has no moving parts or wear items.
