Converts an M.2 NVMe slot into four SATA 3.0 6Gbps ports via Mini SAS SFF8087 for multidrive storage in compact systems
This adapter converts an M.2 NVMe slot into four SATA 3.0 6Gbps ports using a Mini SAS SFF8087 breakout interface. It targets builders adding multidrive storage to compact NAS units, mini servers or small form factor systems. The card supports both 2.5 and 3.5 inch HDDs and SSDs for flexible mass storage expansion. It works plug and play with Windows and Linux for RAID array deployment.
The compact M.2 form factor fits inside tight chassis without additional power connectors or active cooling. Passive operation keeps noise at zero while the durable PCB handles continuous heavy load data transfers. Stable controller design maintains consistent throughput across all four SATA 3.0 ports during sustained workloads. Power draw scales with the number of attached drives rather than the adapter itself.
A sturdy circuit board and reliable controller ensure long term durability for always on storage servers. The Mini SAS SFF8087 connector accepts standard breakout cables for clean cable routing to four drives. M.2 mounting secures the card directly to the motherboard without occupying a PCIe slot. This layout suits space constrained builds where internal drive bays are limited but an M.2 NVMe slot is available.

Insert the card firmly into the M.2 NVMe slot, secure it with the mounting screw, then connect the SFF8087 breakout cable to the card and attach up to four SATA 3.0 6Gbps drives. The step often missed is fastening the retention screw, which keeps the card seated under vibration.
The adapter itself has no moving parts and requires no scheduled maintenance. You may need to replace the SFF8087 breakout cable or individual SATA 3.0 6Gbps data cables if connectors wear or locking clips break after repeated drive swaps.
The single M.2 NVMe upstream link caps total throughput, so combined read/write across all four SATA 3.0 6Gbps ports cannot exceed that upstream bandwidth. In sustained heavyload RAID workloads this bottleneck shows up before any perport SATA 3.0 6Gbps limit.
