Converts M.2 SATA SSDs (2230, 2242, 2260, 2280) to USB 3.0 external storage with UASP acceleration for faster file transfers and plug-and-play data recovery
This SMUGDESK adapter enclosure converts an internal NGFF M.2 SATA solid-state drive into portable external storage. It connects via a standard USB 3.0 interface and supports the UASP transmission protocol for improved data-transfer efficiency. The tool-free, screw-fixed design enables quick drive installation and plug-and-play operation on Windows, Mac OS and mainstream Linux systems. Ideal for hardware enthusiasts, IT staff and office users who want to reuse spare M.2 SATA SSDs for backup, cloning or data recovery.
The enclosure accepts M.2 Key B and Key B+M SATA SSDs in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 form factors. It does not recognise NVMe-based M.2 drives, so buyers with NVMe SSDs cannot use this adapter. Users who need internal NVMe performance or a different physical connector should look for a product specifically built for that protocol.
The single specification that determines compatibility is the SSD interface protocol and key type: the drive must be an M.2 SATA device with Key B or Key B+M notch. NVMe protocol drives, regardless of physical size, will not function with this adapter.

Yes, the USB 3.0 interface is backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports, though transfer speeds will be limited to the older standard's maximum.
On Windows, check Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus controllers for an entry mentioning UASP; on Linux, run lsusb -t and look for uas in the driver column.
The enclosure uses a tool-free screw-fixed design; the necessary mounting screw for 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 sizes is built into the case, so no separate screwdriver or screws are required.
