  • Bi-directional link connects Mini DP and full-size DP devices
  • 4 Gbps bandwidth drives 8K 60 Hz and 4K 144 Hz output

  • Aluminium shell and cotton-braided jacket protect the cable from wear
  • Compatible with Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2 ports on MacBooks

8K Mini DisplayPort Cable

This 6.6ft SMUGDESK cable connects Mini DisplayPort sources to standard DisplayPort displays or the reverse. It suits MacBook, iMac, Surface Pro and other Thunderbolt 1 or 2 equipped laptops driving 8K monitors. The bi-directional design also lets a full-size DisplayPort computer feed a Mini DisplayPort screen.

Plug-and-play aluminium shell

Gold-plated connectors and a braided cotton-PVC jacket make insertion smooth and the cable resistant to kinks. No drivers are required; the link negotiates DisplayPort 1.4 automatically. The only common issue is attempting DisplayPort-to-Mini-DisplayPort output on a monitor whose Mini DP port lacks video-input support.

Check port direction and version

Verify that your source and display both carry Mini DisplayPort or full-size DisplayPort 1.4 sockets. Confirm the monitor’s Mini DP port accepts video input if you plan to drive it from a standard DisplayPort computer. Ensure the 32.4 Gbps bandwidth matches your 8K 60 Hz or 4K 144 Hz target resolution.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the cable is delivering 8K at 60 Hz after connecting it?

Set the external monitor to 7680x4320 resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate in your OS display settings; if the image is stable with no flicker or fallback to lower modes, the link is running at the full 32.4 Gbps bandwidth.

What comes with the cable and do I need any adapters?

The package contains only the 6.6 ft Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable with gold-plated connectors, aluminum shells and a cotton-braided jacket; no separate adapters are required for Mini DP or standard DP ports.

Which resolution and refresh-rate combination should I pick for my setup?

Choose 7680x4320 at 60 Hz for maximum detail on 8K displays, or 3840x2160 at 144 Hz for high-refresh gaming on 4K panels; both are supported within the DisplayPort 1.4 bandwidth limit.
