This SMUGDESK adapter converts a single PCIe 4.0 x16 slot into four M.2 NVMe connectors. It accepts 22110, 2280, 2260 and 2242 form-factor SSDs. The card is built for 2U server chassis where space is limited. It targets administrators who need dense local storage without occupying additional expansion slots.

Bifurcation Must Be Enabled First

Installation is a standard PCIe card insertion, but the motherboard firmware must support and enable PCIe bifurcation. Without that setting the additional ports will not be recognised by the system. The most common issue is forgetting to configure bifurcation in the BIOS before booting. No extra drivers are required once the firmware is set correctly.

Limited To Platforms With Bifurcation Support

The adapter relies entirely on the host platform splitting the x16 link into four x4 lanes. Consumer desktop chipsets and many entry-level server boards lack this capability, so the card will not function there. Bandwidth per drive is constrained to a single PCIe 4.0 x4 connection. Buyers without bifurcation support cannot use this product.
