Adds a U.2 NVMe slot via PCIe 4x using SFF8654 Slimline SAS, supporting PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 speeds
This SMUGDESK adapter kit converts a PCIe 4x slot to a U.2 (SFF8639) interface using an SFF8654 Slimline SAS connection. It supports PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 NVMe SSDs for high-speed enterprise-grade bandwidth. The standard bracket design ensures secure installation inside a PC or server chassis. Plug-and-play compatibility covers Windows, Linux and enterprise operating systems.
Ideal for builders adding U.2 NVMe storage to a system with an available PCIe 4x slot. Not suitable for setups lacking a PCIe 4x slot or requiring a different drive interface such as M.2 or standard SFF8639 cabling without the Slimline SAS link. Buyers needing more lanes than 4x should look elsewhere.
The adapter operates with both PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 signalling, so the connected U.2 NVMe SSD runs at the speed allowed by the drive and the host slot. This single specification determines whether the kit matches the performance level required for the target storage workload.

The adapter uses a standard PCIe bracket that secures in any full-height x4 or larger slot on a desktop or server motherboard.
Align the keyed SFF-8654 connector with the drive receptacle, seat it fully until the latch clicks, then secure the bracket screw before powering on.
Replace the cable if the latch no longer holds firmly, if visual inspection shows bent pins or cracked insulation, or after repeated reseating cycles in a high-vibration chassis.
