SMUGDESK

SMUGDESK PCIe 5.0 X4 to U.2 SFF-8639 NVMe Adapter 128Gbps

SKU CH-7XKK-19WN1

Adds a U.2 SFF-8639 port to a PCIe 5.0 x4 slot for NVMe SSDs at 128Gbps

  • PCIe 5.0 X4 delivers 128Gbps bandwidth for U.2 NVMe SSDs
  • Converts a standard PCIe slot into a U.2 SFF-8639 port for direct drive connection
  • Optimized high-speed signal design reduces latency for data-center and workstation workloads
  • Compatible with mainstream U.2 NVMe SSDs for heavy-duty data processing and storage
  • Plug-and-play installation requires no extra drivers for a quick storage upgrade

PCIe 5.0 X4 Adapter for U.2 NVMe SSDs

This SMUGDESK adapter connects enterprise-grade U.2 NVMe solid-state drives to a standard PCIe 5.0 x4 slot. It targets data-center operators, workstation builders and high-performance desktop users who need direct attachment of U.2 storage without a proprietary backplane.

Sustained 128Gbps bandwidth under load

The PCIe 5.0 x4 interface delivers up to 128Gbps of ultrahigh bandwidth, maintaining throughput during heavy-duty data processing and large-volume storage tasks. Optimised high-speed signal design minimises latency so performance remains stable in servers and professional computing workloads.

Plug-and-play installation with driver-free setup

Installation requires only a free PCIe 5.0 x4 slot and a compatible U.2 NVMe SSD; no extra drivers are needed for a quick storage upgrade. Builders must verify motherboard lane allocation and physical clearance, as the card occupies a full-height slot and the U.2 cable routing can be tight in compact chassis.

Questions about this item

Does the PCIe 5.0 X4 adapter add fan noise or heat when a U.2 NVMe SSD runs continuously?

The card is a passive circuit board with no fan; it adds negligible heat of its own, while the attached U.2 NVMe SSD manages its own thermal profile.

Must the motherboard already provide a PCIe 5.0 X4 slot and U.2 NVMe drive for this adapter to function?

Yes, you need an open PCIe 5.0 X4 slot and a compatible U.2 NVMe SSD; the adapter simply bridges the two.

Will a PCIe 4.0 motherboard still recognise the U.2 NVMe SSD through this PCIe 5.0 X4 adapter?

The adapter works in PCIe 4.0 slots at 4.0 speeds, so the U.2 NVMe SSD will be detected and run at the lower bandwidth.
