16-Port SATA 3.0 Expansion Kit

This kit adds sixteen SATA 3.0 ports to a system through a single PCIe X4 slot. It targets server, NAS and workstation builders who need to attach many hard drives or SSDs at once. The bundle includes the expansion card, a MiniSAS SFF-8073 riser and four SFF-8087 to SATA cables. Everything required for the connection is in the box.

Bandwidth and Drive Limits

The PCIe X4 link supplies the upstream bandwidth for all sixteen ports running at 6Gbps each. Aggregate throughput is therefore shared across every active drive, so sustained transfers on many disks will saturate the link. The card works with standard SATA HDDs and SSDs but cannot accelerate drives beyond the SATA 3.0 specification. Systems needing more than sixteen ports or a wider PCIe lane allocation will require additional hardware.

Bundled Cabling and Riser

The included MiniSAS SFF-8073 riser converts the card's internal connectors to four external MiniSAS ports. Four SFF-8087 to SATA breakout cables then fan each MiniSAS port out to four individual SATA data connectors. This cabling chain removes the need to source compatible cables separately and ensures signal integrity across the full sixteen-drive array.
