Adds four M-Key NVMe slots through one PCIe X16 slot for desktop storage expansion
This SMUGDESK ph44 adapter turns a single PCIe X16 slot into four M-Key M.2 NVMe interfaces. It is built for desktop users who want to add multiple NVMe SSDs inside a standard PC chassis. The compact card installs like any internal expansion board and requires no external power cables. Buyers who need more than four drives or who lack a free X16 slot cannot use this adapter.
With four NVMe SSDs active the card shares the X16 lane budget across all ports, so combined throughput scales with the host platform's PCIe generation. Thermal load rises steadily during long write sessions because the board has no active cooling of its own. Workloads that keep all drives at peak transfer for extended periods will see throttling unless the case provides strong airflow.
The adapter passes through the host's PCIe X16 connection, so total bandwidth cannot exceed what the CPU or chipset delivers on that slot. If the platform splits the X16 into smaller links, each M-Key port receives a corresponding fraction of the lanes. Older platforms that only support PCIe 3.0 or 2.0 on the X16 slot will cap every drive at those speeds regardless of the SSD's own rating.

The card has no active cooling; heat depends entirely on the SSDs installed and your case airflow.
You need a free PCIe x16 slot and a motherboard that supports PCIe bifurcation (x4/x4/x4/x4) so each M.2 slot receives four lanes.
Yes, the adapter is electrically compatible with PCIe 3.0; each NVMe SSD will simply operate at PCIe 3.0 speeds when the platform negotiates the link.
