USB 2.0 active extension cable 10 m

This active repeater cable extends a USB 2.0 connection up to 10 metres (30 ft) between a host computer and peripheral devices. It uses a male Type-A plug on one end and a female Type-A port on the other. No drivers are required on Windows, Mac OS, Linux or Chrome OS. The cable suits printers, keyboards, storage drives, cameras and VR headsets such as Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

Replaces passive cables that hit the 5 m limit

Passive USB 2.0 cables are reliable only to about 5 metres; beyond that signal loss causes drop-outs. The built-in repeater in this cable regenerates the signal so the full 10 metre run remains stable. The upgrade is worth it when a device must sit farther from the host than a standard cable allows, for example a sensor placed across a room for VR tracking.

Limited to USB 2.0 bandwidth and power

The cable operates at USB 2.0 speeds, so it cannot deliver the throughput needed for USB 3.0 or higher devices. It also draws power from the host port to run the repeater, which may limit the current available for bus-powered peripherals such as large hard drives. Devices that require USB 3.x signalling or higher bus power will not work correctly through this extension.

Questions about this item

What length does the 10M active extension cable add to my USB 2.0 connection?

The cable provides a 10 metre (30 foot) active extension for USB 2.0 Type-A devices.

How do I install the active repeater cable without losing signal?

Plug the male Type-A end into the host, then connect your device to the female Type-A port; the built-in repeater maintains USB 2.0 signal integrity across the full 10 metre run.

Will the active electronics in the 10M cable ever need replacement?

The integrated repeater draws power from the USB bus and has no user-serviceable parts; if the cable is damaged it is replaced as a single unit.
